skate. Ambient Phone Conversations
In our 4th Season, we undertook an effort to expand the fidelity of our pedestrians across San Vansterdam. I worked alongside our VO Lead to offer feedback on trigger contexts, and contributed a significant number of the 5,000 lines recorded.
The selected sample encompasses “phone calls” - ambient one-sided conversations that add life to our world and help set its “authentic irreverent” tone.
skate. Mission Script
skate. Missions are linear activities that still allow players to engage in what we call “Free Skate” meaning they do not suspend other Activities. Writing for them needs to be economical and concise, but also convey the most narrative context possible, since Missions are where almost all our direct storytelling happens.
This tension can only be resolved at the intersection of Narrative and Gameplay - work I am proud to have contributed to in this Mission teasing our Season 4 Event. Along with our Mission Designer, I championed the creation of “knockable” cans to support the gameplay fantasy - a feature extremely well received by players.
skate. Barks and Reactions
Throughout skate. there are - as expected - Pedestrians and vehicles that require reactivity to player action. These lines include a selection of those scenarios, as well as several for more ambient contexts such as crowd reactions, PA System announcements, and more.
We continue to add variety to our game writing more of these types of lines, collaborating with our VO Team to brainstorm high impact contextual VO and deliver on the fantasy of our Seasons and Events.
Marvel Contest of Champions Event Quest
Event Quests were the bread and butter content for MCOC, delivering a steady drip of story, challenge, rewards, and importantly, tying into the major beats in the Marvel Cinematic and Comic Universes.
I was fortunate enough to be given the task of writing and designing the Quest for “Infinity Nightmare” - which coincided with the release of Infinity War. In this Mission, I played off the conceit that the Summoner (the player) must move to the next area of the map, using it as a mechanism to justify Thanos “mind controlling” them.

For our 1.0 Build, we created a “Summoner’s Journey” - a progression path which included new gear, Game Modes, Champions, and story comics. I wrote several comics in this progression, including the ones here - one of which I also drew the Inks for.
